Again Against Myself

 In shadows deep I stand alone,
My heart, a drum of muted groan.
A battle rages in my breast,
Ceaseless, restless — no reprieve, no rest.

I am my foe in midnight's hold,
Through sleepless hours, through doubt grown cold.
In fear's dim maze I find my way;
Against myself I wage each day.

Yet hope remains, a steady flame,
Unchanged, it whispers out my name.
To reconcile, to find release —
The fiercest wars must yield to peace.

I'll seek the light within my core,
Embrace my want, my plenty, more.
In this hard strife a truth I see:
To love oneself is to be free.
